Types of UPVC Door Handles

If your upvc door handle needs replacing it's essential to find the best replacement for your home. Locksmiths can supply and install high-security uPVC door handles that have additional security features.
The most important measurements to take are the measurement A (also called PZ) as well as the length of the backplate. Make sure to check these measurements to ensure that your new uPVC handle will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a solid bar pivoted around a point (known as a fulcrum). When you apply a force at the end of the lever it tends to rotate the fulcrum in the direction of the applied force. This rotates the force and lets you lift or move things that would otherwise require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum and the place where you apply the force determines how far the lever can be moved. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The advantage of mechanical force increases as the lever is extended. You can calculate the advantage of mechanical by dividing distance from the fulcrum point to the point you are applying force by distance between the fulcrum's point and the end of the lever.
Levers can produce different effects depending on the way the force is applied. A lever of class 2 for instance is prone to turning in the opposite direction when an force of the effort is applied. If you press on the door handle, the forces will produce the same rotational effects as this.
However, levers don't create energy. They just multiply the force you apply by changing a small amount of effort applied over a long distance into a larger amount of force applied over a smaller distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and move huge quantities of cargo. This is also the principle behind the levers you find in a variety of everyday tools, such as crowbars, fishing rods, claws for hammers, and even your legs when you sit on the hand brake of your vehicle.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles, have levers on each side to operate the multipoint locks. They are available in a variety of variations and finishes and can be used with a variety of materials, including UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for the inner and outer door with spindles & screws included. They are also available in hand and unhanded versions for different types of users.
They are commonly used in new constructions and can be fitted to replace doors made of upvc. The levers are lowered to open the multipoint locks and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They are more secure in comparison to standard lever door handles as the locking operation can only be accessed from the inside with an open key, unless the door is deadlocked.
They are not as secure as a cylinder bolt, but are a cost-effective option to provide extra home security. The only downside is that they do not provide the same level of security like a cylinder lock and so don't prevent external access to the home if the door is left open.
The majority of the lever pad upvc door handles we have in stock are manufactured by the industry's leading manufacturers and therefore are constructed using high quality components. In general, they are supplied with a manufacturer's guarantee.
They usually are designed to work with the 92mm lock, or a substitute version known as a Paddock Lock. They will have a 92mm cylinder centre on the inside and 62mm on the exterior and come with two spindle followers. Some are fitted with the back plate whilst others are removable to allow for different fixing centres.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches, which are the simplest of door handles are commonly used. Pushing down on the lever operates a simple latch mechanism inside the door to keep it closed, which can be locked using keys. www.repairmywindowsanddoors.co.uk for privacy are based on this same principle however, with the addition of an Snib (like a doorknob).
A snib can be a very useful tool, especially in homes where security and privacy are essential. If your partner is arriving home late from work, you can use the snib so that they won't be able to enter until they're ready to come in. This type handle can also be put in on interior doors such as those in bedrooms where you wish to restrict access from outside.
Snib buttons can cause issues in certain situations, particularly when you have locks that are old and warped doors. If the snib button was accidentally pressed, or by someone who isn't familiar with it, the door may slam and lock you out. You can usually gain entry by knocking on the door frame or letterbox. But this isn't the best option.
If your uPVC has a snib, we recommend replacing it with an electronic lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. These smart locks can be retrofitted to double turn pull handle kits. They come with coverplates that hide existing holes to make it an easy installation. The E-LOK uses a smart app that allows you to unlock the door with mechanical keys or RFID cards, and is able to be set up with passcodes to ensure security and convenience. The system has been tested for 200,000 cycles to ensure its durability. The handles are made from solid metal and comply with BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This popular style of handle is commonly used on front doors. It is advantageous because it has the benefit of preventing the door from being opened without a key from the outside in the event that the lock has not been deadlocked. This is accomplished by using a 'pad-shaped' external handle that locks into the gap between the handle and lock case.
This handle is designed to be used with uPVC multipoint locks that employ split spindle mechanisms. This kind of operation requires the lever handle as well as the external pad handle to be fitted on the same lock case. It could be a simple replacement of the existing uPVC handle, however it may also require a change in the lock case or a brand new set to handle furniture.
These aluminium lever/movable pad door handles are ideal for uPVC doors and come with a slide bearing that is maintenance-free fixing lugs, fixing lugs and spring cassettes supplied. These handles feature a cut-out for a euro-profile, and can be mounted on many uPVC or doors made of timber.
The lever-movable pad is available in various finishes to suit a wide selection of multipoint locks. They are designed to be used with split spindle multipoint locks that have a 92mm cylinder and require a separate split spindle set that is provided by the lock manufacturer.

Lever/Moveable Snib

It is made up of two handles that can be moved and locked with a thumbturn cylinder or a key. Pad handles are an alternative to a lever/lever handle. It is made up of either a movable or fixed pad that can be used to operate the lock. These Fullex handles have a sprung lever pad and a snib that can be turned on to hold the latch.
